Interview with Cindy McDonald

Cindy McDonald

Where are you from?

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Tell us your latest news?

I will be releasing my 7th novel in September, To the Breaking Pointe.

When and why did you begin writing?

I began writing seriously in 2005. Although I did not start out writing books. My Unbridled Series started out as a TV show. The Hollywood readers loved the show, but long story short: we just couldn’t sell it to producers, so I turned it into a book series.

When did you first consider yourself a writer?

When my first novel, Deadly.Com, was published.

What inspired you to write your first book?

My husband and I race Thoroughbreds. The backside (stable area) of the racetrack is a treasure trove of characters and storylines—there is inspiration at every turn.

Do you have a specific writing style?

Most likely, but I’m not sure that I could describe it. I think my readers would have to do that.

How did you come up with the title of your book or series?

The Unbridled Series is set at the Thoroughbred Racetrack and farm (both fictional)—I thought that the stories were rather...unbridled, and so that’s what I named the series. For my second series, First Force—it has a black op theme—It simply came to me.

Quickly, give us the title and genre of your book and a 30-word or less tagline:
How about if I do the series?

The Unbridled Series is Thoroughbred racing steeped in murder, suspense, and smokin’ hot romance.

The First Force Series is romantic suspense totally off the grid.

Who is your intended audience and why should they read your book?

I think my series’ appeal to a lot of people—men and women read and enjoy them. The books are filled with suspense and surprise—if you like twists in the plotline—my books are for you.

Tel us a little bit about your cover art. Who designed it? Why did you go with that particular image/artwork?

I have quite a few covers, but let’s talk about my First Force covers. I wanted to use hot male models—and I found them on Facebook! Stuart Reardon graces the cover of Into the Crossfire and Stuart Tomlinson the cover of the second book, To the Breaking Pointe. I purchased the photos from Photographers on FB and Todd Aune did the artwork—I think they are unique and they look fabulous!

Who is your favorite character from your book and why?

I fell in love with the character, Jack Haliday in book 3 of my Unbridled Series. He wasn’t one of the main characters—he was what I call a “visiting character.” Someone who would be in that particular storyline and then possibly never be heard from again. But I simply fell in love, so Jack showed up in book #4 and that’s when I decided to give him his own series, First Force.

Giveus an interesting fun fact or a few about your book or series: As I pointed out earlier, the Unbridled Series started out as a TV show. I had high hopes of it becoming a TV series—it would have been so different from all the other shows, but it simply wasn’t meant to be, and I’m okay with that. I love my books.

What other books are similar to your own?

What makes them alike? My First Force Series is comparative to Cindy Gerard’s Black Ops Series and Maya Banks KGI Series—because of the black ops theme.

Do you have any unique talents or hobbies?

I spent 26 years as a professional dancer and choreographer, I’ve shown Quarter Horses for many years, and I live on a 45 acre Thoroughbred farm.

How can we contact you or find out more about your books?

What can we expect from you in the future?

Book #2 of the First Force Series, To the Breaking Pointe, will release in September, and I’m planning to release a paranormal storyline for the Unbridled Series in January or February 2015. I also have a children’s book, George the Boss about a stubborn pony who needs to learn to share.

Do you have any tips for readers or advice for other writers trying to get published?

I have no silver bullet offer. I am independently published, and I love it that way. I am not seeking out an agent or publisher—I’m perfectly happy publishing independently at this time.

Is there anything else you’d like to say?

I hope you will check out my books.

And now, before you go, how about a snippet from your book that is meant to intrigue and tantalize us:
