1.
What do you write?
We write a wide variety of things. From romance to fantasy, to
horror to mystery and suspense. For our first series together I wrote the
first draft, then Briana came through armed with a red pen and suggestions to
flesh it out.
2.
Why do you write?
We’ve both been writing since we were much younger, filling notebooks and
notebooks with the adventures of fanfiction and original characters.
Writing just kind of comes naturally and is a part of our lives.
Heck, we met through a writing group, so it’s inseparable from everything.
3.
For whom do you write?
Our muses. They’re evil evil things that whisper in our ears until
we do what they say. We have to write, because these ideas keep coming
and otherwise we’ll go mad. And hopefully people enjoy reading them
somewhere along the way.
4. By whom are you
inspired?
Everything. We
know, that’s the simple answer, but it’s really true. The smallest little
thing can be an inspiration, like a music video or an image on tumblr.
Then we usually take a long drive and talk about our ideas until they
grow into something larger.
5 .You can Share your
current writing (Any small Story/Poem) or Tell your Future plan About writing?
Briana currently has two books and one short story available:
Treat Me Kindly - A supernatural story about exotic pets that are a lot more dangerous
than you think.
Press Start to Play - A short gay romance centered in the meeting of
sports and geekery.
Double Hue - A murder mystery romance where the main character is forced to relive
the death of his boyfriend until he can find a way to stop it.
Seeking the Storyteller - Our first book together (and also
Jessica’s first published work) is the first in an urban fantasy series
centering on a creature who can read your life like a book and change it anyway
he wants.
6. Give five pieces of advice to
a new writer?
1. Just
write. Worry about editing and being perfect later, just write and sort
everything else out later.
2.
No first draft is perfect, and that’s ok! The first draft is still something
to be proud of, because it means you completed your work. Give yourself a
pat on the back, because you deserve it. You finished it. Now comes
the editing, and don’t be afraid of that next part, because editing will only
improve your work and make it strong.
3. Find
someone to read your stories who will be honest. You don’t want someone
who just says ‘It’s good’. You need someone who’ll tell you what is bad
and what needs to be fixed, even if it’s hard to take.
4. Listen
to criticism. Even if it’s painful, still do it. It’ll make you a
better writer. You might ultimately disagree with them, but at least
listen and consider for a second.
5. Have
fun. Writing can be a lot of work, but it should also be fun. If
you have fun writing your story, then the reader is more likely to enjoy
reading it.
7. Give five pieces of advice to
a reader?
1. Read a lot. All
the time, all the time you can.
2. Read what you like.
If you like a genre devour it. All forms of it.
3. Read new things.
Try new genres, try new authors and try new books, you might just find a
favorite hidden somewhere you least expect.
4. Share your books.
Tell people what you like, tell them why, don’t just say ‘It’s awesome’.
5. Review your books.
It seems so small, but reviews mean a lot to authors. Even if you
feel like you don’t have much to say, leave a rating. And be honest, if
you don’t like a book say so, it’s ok. We’ll understand and we’ll use it
to make our next even better.
