Our today's Author is Sarah England.
Sarah
originally trained as a nurse in Sheffield (UK) and then went on to work as a
medical representative for nearly 20 years, specialising in mental health.
She
had always wanted to write fiction, but did not begin until around 8 years ago,
prompted by a house move and relocation to the South coast. Since then she has
had around 140 short stories published, mostly in national magazines and
various anthologies; most recently a 3 part detective serial in Woman’s Weekly.
‘3am
and Wide Awake’ was released in May 2013 by Alfie Dog Fiction - a collection of
25 thrillers, many supernatural or medically based - two of her predominant
themes.
‘Expected’
is Sarah’s first novel - a comedy launched by Crooked Cat Publishing on 28th
June, 2013.
She
lives in Dorset with her husband, Don, and spaniel, Harry.
What you write?
I am a magazine short story writer
with stories published in magazines all over the world, but this year I have 2
books published – 1. ‘3am and Wide Awake’ is a collection of spooky thrillers;
and 2. ‘Expected’ is a comedy in women’s fiction!
Why you write?
I have always wanted to be a writer
since being a little girl. I first worked as a nurse and then as a medical rep.
Now I can draw on that experience and tell the world lots of amusing or scary
stories… depending on what the readers prefer…
For whom you write?
I write for everyone. I want to
entertain people either with spooky stories or lots of laughs – anyone can
enjoy what I write, although my work is not for children. If I had to narrow it
down I would say young women; but also men like my comedy and thrillers too.
By whom you inspired?
Stephen King – he is a prolific and
gifted writer, who writes for everyone – ordinary people – like I do. I also
enjoyed classic writers like Thomas Hardy and the Bronte sisters.
You can Share you current writing (Any
small Story/Poem) or Tell your Future plan about writing?
I have just had ‘Expected’ released by
crooked cat publishing, and am writing the sequel, as the star of the book, Sam
Sweet, has begged me to…. Ha ha! Seriously? I enjoy writing about Sam – she is
taking on a life of her own. Some people want to slap her and others really
love her….
I am also currently writing a
murder-mystery serial for a woman’s magazine in the UK.
Here is the synopsis of Expected:
Sam Sweet is a failed psychiatric nurse
from a sink estate in Weston Super mare. Her mother, whose husband ran off with
another woman 20 years ago - although you'd think it happened only yesterday -
has only one ambition and that is to be a grandmother.
But Sam is terrified of giving birth.
She is easily traumatised and has no ambition to return to the sink estate and
have dozens of children. She just wants a chance to do something with her life
first, to fall in love, and see a bit of the world.
Alas, in a drunken stupor she meets
Simon - the psychopathic surgeon, who promises her a wonderful life and she
believes him - because she is a dingbat and has a lot to learn.
But now she's trapped and can't get out
of the situation - her latest job is injecting facial fillers and clients are
suing because it’s going lumpy; and her best friend, also her boss, is sexually
jealous to the point of blind rage because her boyfriend fancies Sam and does
little to hide the fact. Living with her psychopathic boyfriend and with her
job on the line she now has nowhere to go! A plan is needed.
However, Sam's coping strategy as her
life whizzes out of control, is to eat more chocolate and shop like a WAG on
speed. But soon she piles on weight and sinks deeply into debt, at which point Simon the surgeon
starts playing serious mind games; and by the time it dawns on Sam just what a
horrific mess she's in - we might as well pass her the JCB because she keeps on
digging.
As she hits rock bottom, however, her
dream man arrives - Joel – WOWEE - Madison! - but Sam now feels too fat to
pursue matters.... and slimy Simon ups the stakes when he sniffs out her
potential happiness and escape. Although that's nothing compared to the cards
her mother decides to play... oh it's getting worse.......the wedding to Simon
is booked....fireworks? You bet....
