A Short Guide to Partners and Panic Attacks – A Book Review

A Short Guide to Partners and Panic Attacks – A Book Review

panic

As someone that lived with panic attacks, I know the toll they can have on your partner. Most people focus on what panic attacks do to the person with anxiety. But they can affect your partner as well, and the more they affect your partner, the more the relationship becomes tense. The tenser the relationship, the harder it is to find support from your partner during your panic attack.

That's why I was very happy to see a short book titled "Howto Handle a Relationship When Your Partner Has Panic Attacks" on Kindle, by author Jim Stoyle. It's a topic that is rarely addressed in today's society and is incredibly important for those that are struggling with panic disorder and panic attack symptoms.

Pros of the Panic Attack Book

· Topic

Arguably the best part of this short non-fiction book is the topic. The story focuses on the idea that the husbands and wives of partners with panic attacks often have a hard time understanding what their significant others are going through. Panic attacks can strain the family, and so more people in relationships with panic disorder sufferers need to read up on what their partners need from them and what they can do to make sure their relationship stays strong.

· Tips

The book goes through a lot of different tips. Some of the tips are common sense, but are useful to hear anyway. Some of the tips are incredibly valuable for partners that don't know what they need to do for their partner and how they can help their partner recover. The tips section in this book is fairly long with a lot of useful strategies.

· Personalizing Panic Attacks

The book also does a good job of personalizing panic attacks, so that the reader understands what those with panic disorder are really going through. It tells a story of how Jim handles his panic attacks, and what he deals with every day. It also uses his own stories to show why he needs what he does from his partner in order to make the relationship work.

Cons of the Panic Attack Book

· Length

For the price, the length of this book is simply far too short. At only 29 pages, the book is barely a 10 minute read, and yet it costs as much as some novellas. Its length is one of the main reasons it does not sell a lot of copies despite the number of people living with panic attacks today.

· Writing Style

Jim Stoyle doesn't write like a writer. He writes more like someone that simply wanted to get his thoughts on paper. On the one hand, this is valuable for those that need a real personal account of living with panic attacks. On the other hand, it can make for some irritating reading.

Overall Thoughts on the Book

"How to Handle a Relationship When Your Partner Has Panic Attacks" by Jim Stoyle is based on a great premise. As a book, it needs to be better, longer, and more properly edited. But as an informational pamphlet, it is still a very valuable tool for helping others understand what they can do for their partners when their partners suffer from panic disorder. It's not worth purchasing if money is tight, but if you have a $2.99 to lose, it may still be worth your money because it gives you something to think about with regard to your partner's mental health.

About the Author: Ryan Rivera suffered from panic disorder for years that often hurt his relationships. He writes about overcoming panic attacks and anxiety at www.calmclinic.com.
